Like the fictional Starfleet - SFC's Units are supported by a HQ
staff who are an essential part of the Star Trek image. These
departments produce activities, exams and projects related to
their speciality. As a member of SFC, you join the department
that suits your interests, and you're encouraged to take part in
activities related to that department, as well as submit your
own ideas.
Dealing
with the technology and related subjects within Star Trek from
Stations and Starships down to Isolinear chips and
PADDS, Fleet Engineering aims to
teach you how and why things work in the Star
Trek universe and what they do. Fleet Engineering
also maintains the roster of Fleet Unit Types and supervises the Cochrane
Fleet Yards, home of Starfleet Command's
very own 'Skunk Works'. Engineering frequently attracts
members who are 'builders and makers' in real life and
often use their skills for the benefit of their Units.
Shipboard security, tactical operations or space
combat - the more martial aspects of life in Starfleet
are mainly the responsibility of the Security
Department. Security Officers are familiar with
the weapons, tactics and threats of the Star Trek
universe. In addition to the fantasy aspects of
the Department, Security crew often perform stewarding
duties at events and club meetings. Military
qualifications are not required, but many SFC Security
Officers have actually come from service backgrounds.

Combining
the disciplines of Medical and Science, the Life Science
Division goes beyond the usual remit of either Division
towards a synergy of both :
MEDICAL DIVISION
Caring for the many lifeforms that make up
the United Federation of Planets, Starfleet Medical
often finds itself dealing with creatures and organisms
beyond our experience. More than just knowing
which end to hold a hypospray, it encompasses knowledge
of the many and varied lifeforms in Star Trek, their
anatomy and the medicine of the future. In the past,
Medical Officers with real qualifications have doubled
as First Aid Providers for their Units, but we don't
insist you're a practising medic!
SCIENCE DIVISION
Physics, Biology, Chemistry and
Astronomy are just some of the scientific disciplines that keep
Starfleet operating on a daily basis under the aegis of
the Fleet Science Department. From pure Research at
Jupiter Station to field work aboard Starships across
the galaxy, Science Officers are a ubiquitous part of
the Fleet and make a recognisable contribution. Through
Fleet Science, you can learn some of the 'real' science behind Star Trek
along with the 'meta'-science presented in the show.
